National Printer
Strikes Puts
Hold On Laws,
Decrees And
Notices
The government
can pass all
types of decrees
and
notifications
and the
Legislative
Assembly laws,
but none go into
force until
their are
published in La
Gaceta, the
official
government
publication,
since the
Imprenta
Nacional
(National
Printer) workers
are on strike.
The strike is
now into its
fifth day, as
workers claim
their right to
benefits for
those employees
choosing to
retire with 12
years of
service, agreed
to by the
Presidencia and
Trabajo
(government and
labour minisry),
but cancelled by
veto by the
Ministerio de
Hacienda
(finance
ministry).
Edgar Morales,
head of the
Asociación
Nacional de
Empleados
Públicos (ANEP)
union, says they
are not ready to
lift the strike,
and if a
solution is not
found soon, will
turn into a
hunger strike.
In the meantime,
nothing gets
printed.
