The volatility
of the dollar
exchange has
become a true
nightmare for
most. The ups
and downs of the
past few months
has left many a
business person
scratching their
heads and is
affecting the
lives of many
foreigners and
Costa Ricans
alike, who live
off the US
currency as
their source of
ingress.
The dollar
exchange was
hovering around
˘570 colones to
one US dollar at
the beginning of
the year,
dropping then
increasing then
dropping then
increasing then
dropping, well
you get the
picture, to a
low of ˘503
almost two weeks
ago.
This week,
Monday (May 10)
the dollar
exchange for the
buy was ˘532 and
sell ˘543,
having risen
from ˘521 and
˘532,
respectively,
from Friday and
˘505 and ˘515
the Monday (May
3).
On Wednesday
(May 12) it
dropped back
down to ˘525 and
˘535 and
overnight
dropping even
further, with a
post today of
˘514 and ˘524.
Experts had
believed the
upwards trend
would have seen
the dollar
exchange reach
an average ˘550,
if not by the
end of this
week, but
certainly by the
next.
However, the
rate went
completely in
the opposite
direction,
dropping ˘17
colones in two
days.
No one knows
what it will do
today, tomorrow
and the coming
days.
