Colombian Police Bust
International Drug Trafficking Cartel
BOGOTA - Colombian police busted an
international drug trafficking cartel,
capturing 20 suspects who coordinated
cocaine shipments to the United States,
police commander Oscar Naranjo said
Wednesday.
The suspects were captured in the
northwestern province of Antioquia, the
northern province of Cordoba as well as the
San Andres Island, said the police chief.
"It was a Colombian cartel based in San
Andres," he said, adding that the drug
trafficking cartel produced cocaine in
Antioquia and sent the drugs on speedboats
to Andres, from where they were shipped to
the United States.
Naranjo said the son of a former political
leader of Cordoba was among the detained,
and that the United States had requested the
extradition of six of the suspects.
"We are talking about well-known people
(detainees) in San Andres and Cordoba," he
