Altrusa International of
Oshkosh helps women in Nicaragua
Altrusa of Oshkosh has fostered an
international relationship with Wisconsin's
"sister country" of Nicaragua.
The Altrusa club provided funding for doors
and windows to the recently completed
learning center in Las Lagunas, Nicaragua.
This center has become the premier learning
center in the area, and houses a library,
craft center and holds vocational classes,
which is helping the women in this village
improve their lives.
On average, Nicaraguans complete fewer than
5 years of schooling and nearly 500,000
children remain outside the formal education
system. By creating learning centers we can
help make a significant improvement to the
quality of life in their lives.
We recently received pictures and thank you
notes from many of the women and children
that are making use of their new center.
Altrusa also plans to continue our
partnership with Las Lagunas by providing
books, sewing materials, sewing machines,
and other items for the center.
