Two Months Wait For Driving Test Exam In San José

For those looking to get a drivers license in Costa Rica, best to make an appointment now, since the earliest appointment given out this week is for July 20. You read it right, July!

The departamento de Educación Vial del MOPT (drivers licensing learning department) recommends that new drivers make their appointment for a drivers test at the same time they take out their learner's permit.

The backlog is due to the increase in the amount of licensing applications as the Ley de Tránsito that went into effect on March 1, 2010, includes heavy fines for driving without a license or an expired license.

The driving test in San José is done at the Paso Ancho location and the earliest testing date available on Friday was July 20.

In other testing centres like Liberia, June 29 is the earliest date, in Pérez Zeledón, July 6 and in San Carlos, well next year, as the wait is at least 8 months.

In Limón first available date is July 15 and Puntarenas, July 16.
