New Traffic
Police Chief
Expected To Be
Tough On Corrupt
Officials And
Drunk Drivers
The Policía de
Tránsito will
have a new chief
of police as of
Monday, when
Germán Marín,
makes way for
César Quirós.
Like Marín,
Quirós has more
than a decade of
service with the
Consejo de
Seguridad Vial
and is vowing to
end corruption
within the
traffic police
department.
Another Quirós
obejctive is to
be firm with "picones"
(street racing)
and drunk
drivers.
Like his
predecessor,
Quirós is a
strong supporter
of the new Ley
de Tránsito that
went into effect
on March 1,
2010.
The 48 year old
Quirós is
expected to rule
the traffic
police with an
iron fist, tough
on corrupt
officials and
drivers who
insist on not
respecting the
rules of the
road.
For his part,
Marín will be
moving on to the
vice-ministry of
the MOPT,
working on
bettering road
safety in the
country.
The change is
typical of an
incoming new
minister of the
MOPT and change
of
administration. |
