Trucks Banned On
"Forum" Bridge
And Belén Radial
Finally someone
has figured out
that the bridge
on the autopista
Próspero
Fernández (San
José - Caldera)
in front of the
Forum business
park in Santa
Ana is not
suitable for
heavy trucks.
The bridge, with
most its
guardrail
damaged, some of
it hanging over
the autopista
below, has been
a source of
bottleneck for
the thousands of
vehicles coming
out of the Forum
and from Belén,
and Lindora,
Santa Ana.
As such, Mario
Chavarria,
sub-director of
the Ingeniería
de Tránsito,
said on Saturday
that the bridge
is off limits to
heavy trucks.
What this means
is that trucks
coming from
Belén or Lindora
will now have to
get on the
autopista, head
out towards
Cuidad Colón and
somewhere along
the way make
turn about turn,
mostly likely at
the Hacienda del
Sol, past the
Piedades
intersection, a
couple of
kilometres from
the Forum.
This is the only
place where the
road is not
divided and
ample enough for
trucks to turn
around to head
back to San
José.
The underpass in
front of the
Villareal
residential
community is a
no-no, according
to Chavarria.
Part of the
problem is that
the overpass at
the Forum or the
underpass at
Villareal are
not wide enough
for large trucks
to manoeuvre and
thus cause
traffic
congestion as
trucks have to
go slow,
sometimes back
up to change the
angle of the
turn, leading to
massive
congestion
during peak
hours.
Another change
is to ban the
circulation of
trucks of 18
tonnes or more
on the radial
Belén - Santa
Ana, the road
that runs in
front all of the
commercial
centres. The ban
is between 6am
and 8:30am
Monday to
Friday.

intersection and
the Belén-Santa
Ana radial have
been a problem
for along time.
But, curiously
since the new
president now
lives in the
area and has to
make the trip
daily, suddenly
changes are
happening.
