Croc Attack
Kills Young Man
In Guanacaste
A young man was
the victim of an
attack by a
female crocodile
in heat in the
Cañas river, in
Carrillo,
Guanacaste. The
man, identified
as Gerald López
Gutiérrez, was
swimming in the
river when the
attack occurred.
Witnesses say
that Lopez was
in the river
with four other
friends, when
after 3pm, they
were surprised
by the 5 metre
(16 foot)
reptile.
In typical
fashion, the
reptile grabbed
the man and took
him into deep
waters.
Once the reptile
let go of the
mangled body,
all friend could
do is pick up
the pieces.
Experts warn
that when
crocodiles are
in heat they
become very
aggressive.
Local
authorities say
the area where
the young men
were swimming is
a well known
nest for
crocodiles.
Crocs can be
vicious. The are
able to attack
with lightening
speed and kill
animals as heavy
as they are.
Humans are no
challenge for a
crocodile.
Crocodiles have
nest eggs and
will dig deep
into a creek
back to create a
protected burrow
for their nests. |
