Half a Million Signatures for
Honduran Assembly |
TEGUCIGALPA - Over half million signatures
have been gathered so far by the National
People's Resistance Front (FNRP) of Honduras
to demand the call for a Constituent
Assembly, according to leaders of the
movement.
The sovereign declaration for the
constituent, distributed countrywide by FNRP,
calls for a Constitution guaranteeing rights
to all Hondurans to democratize the
country's political, economic, cultural and
social life in a participative way.
It also demands the unconditional return of
former President Manuel Zelaya, overthrown
by a coup on June 28 last year, the end of
judicial persecution against him and
guarantees for him to fully enjoy civil and
political rights.
"More than half a million signatures have
been gathered so far, but more precise
figures will be known after the first
recount on May 23," said Marvin Ponce,
coordinator of the Front in the Francisco
Morazan department.
The target is to gather over 1.25 million
signatures to demand the call for a
Constituent Assembly.
On June 28, on the first anniversary of the
coup, FNRP will announce the total of
signatures in favour of constitutional
reforms and install a Commission of Truth to
probe into human rights violations. |
