Panama Aims for a Financial Tower by 2013

PANAMA - Panama intends to have a financial tower in 2013 that will be the headquarters of several public institutions, informed official sources.

According to the Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) construction of this tower could begin next year with an investment estimated at about 250 million dollars.

The building will house institutions such as the National Bank of Panama, managers of Banks and Insurance, Maritime and Tourism authorities as well as Public Services and an Energy Secretary.

MEF head, Alberto Vallarino, indicated that part of the capacities will be sold to the private sector to recover costs of the tower.

The design and specifications will be by the US company, Skidmore, Owings and Merrit, with experience in this type of building.

Once studies are concluded the project will be put out to tender, added the official.
