13 Drivers Lose
Their License
For Points Under
The New Traffic
Law
Although there
are reforms
before the
legislature to,
in addition to
reducing fines,
the points from
the Ley de
Tránsito that
went into effect
on March 1,
2010, the point
system stands
and drivers who
accumulate 50
points
automatically
lose their
license for two
years on first
offence.
The provision in
the law has
meant that 13
drivers are now
without a
license and will
be informed to
hand in their
license or be
wanted by the
law.
The ministro de
Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT),
Francisco
Jiménez, assures
that the law is
being enforced
in its full
effect - the
high fines and
the point
system, among
the major
changes.
"The point
system was not
cancelled.
People should
take this into
account", said
Jiménez.
In addition, the
minister said
that Costa Rica
will take
advantage of new
technology to
strengthen
monitoring and
patrols with
non-stationary
mobile units.
