Chinchilla Says
She Will Limit
Her Foreign
Trips
Just ending her
trip to Spain,
Costa Rica's new
president, Laura
Chinchilla, said
in Madrid that
she will limit
her trips
outside of Costa
Rica only to
those that have
a direct impact
on national
matters.
Presidenta
Chinchilla noted
that she will
take only trips
on matters of
national
security or
opening new
commercial
markets.
The Presidenta
arrived from
Spain last
night, being
there since last
Saturday to
negotiate the
free trade
agreement
between Central
America and the
European Union
(EU) that was
signed on
Tuesday and to
participate in
the EU and Latin
America summit.
Chinchilla
embarked in the
European trip
with only one
week of being
inaugurated and
though tomorrow
(Saturday, May
22) will only be
15 days in
power, she has
already received
official
invitations by
Japan, China and
Ecuador, to
visit.
Rafael Correa,
the president of
Ecuador, said
last week he
wanted to be the
first in
receiving Costa
Rica's first
woman president.
The news of her
popularity is
seen as a
positive step in
Chinchilla's
plan to better
ties with other
Central and
Latin American
nations.
