El
Salvador:
Number
of
Homicides
Grows
SAN
SALVADOR
- The
National
Civil
Police
of El
Salvador
(PNC)
reported
an
increase
in the
number
of
homicides
in
October,
with
344, for
a daily
average
of over
10.
The
number
in
September
was 212,
an
average
of 7
every
day, and
PNC
Chief
Carlos
Ascensio
told
reporters
that the
measures
adopted
by the
institution
with the
support
of the
Army
have led
to a
reduction
of
crime.
PNC
agents
and
members
of
municipal
corps
reinforce
surveillance
in the
cemeteries,
where
thousands
of
people
go to
pay
homage
to their
deceased
relatives.
Ascencio
assured
that
plans
are to
close
the year
with a
number
lower
than in
2009.
According
to the
statistics,
from
January
to
October
2010,
3,200
murders
were
committed.
