Nicaragua
Reaffirms
Stance
in
Conflict
with
Costa
Rica
Nicaragua
reaffirmed
Tuesday
the
government's
stance
toward
what it
calls
"the
so-called
border
dispute"
with
Costa
Rica,PPresident
Daniel
Ortega
said in
a
statement.
The
document
sums up
the
results
of a
meeting
held
Monday,
the
second
of this
kind,
between
the
president
and
other
top
state
authorities,
making
the
government's
position
a de
facto
national
strategy.
The
statement
was
signed
by the
presidents
of the
executive,
judicial,
legislative
and
electoral
powers;
top
representatives
of the
Attorney
General's
Office
and the
General
Comptroller
of the
Republic;
and
Cardinal
Miguel
Obando
and
Bravo,
as an
honorary
witness.
According
to the
text
read by
Ortega
after
the
meeting,
Nicaragua
reaffirmed
its
decision
to
maintain
the
conflict
with
Costa
Rica out
of the
Organization
of
American
States.
Nicaragua
also
called
for the
OAS to
definitively
end that
debate,
"which
never
should
have
begun
because
it has
no
jurisdiction,"
and to
leave it
to the
International
Court of
Justice
in the
Hague to
assume
that
authority.
