Growing
Impunity
of
Crimes
against
Women in
Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA
- Nearly
94
percent
of
crimes
against
Honduran
women go
unpunished,
according
to
official
estimates
revealed
on
Thursday.
So far
this
year,
over 250
violent
deaths
against
women
have
been
reported,
and only
five
percent
of those
cases
has been
solved,
the
Women's
Rights
Center (CDM)
said.
Of the
944
murders
reported
between
2008 and
2010,
sentences
have
been
issued
for only
64 of
them,
equivalent
to 6.4
percent
of the
investigations
done,
the
center
added.
The
Women's
Rights
Center
activists
presented
the
report
yesterday
as part
of
launching
a
campaign
with the
slogan
"Women
are
killed,
and they
do not
care --
No more
irresponsible
politicians
and
officials."
