Santa Ana Residents On Alert For More Avalanches Of Mud
The residents of Salitral in Santa Ana continue to be nervous over the actions of the cerro Chitaría that on Thursday came down in an avalanche of mud and debris, destroying a number of homes and sending more than 50 to take refuge in shelters.

On Saturday, the cerro released another load of mud and debris, as residents and authorities maintain on alert for more.

Now more than 80 are taking refuge in shelters, taking with them what they can in fear of losing everything.

Experts of the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) - national emergency commission - believe that water accumulation on the cerro could mean another 5 hectares could come lose and flow down the path and into the rivers.

Salitral is on the south side of Santa Ana, west of Escazú and San José.
