Panama:
Program
to
Legalize
Immigrants
PANAMA -
Panama's
immigration
authorities
will
carry
out a
program
in the
province
of
Chiriqui,
bordering
Costa
Rica, to
legalize
immigrants,
officials
said on
Wednesday.
Officials
from the
National
Immigration
Service
said the
initiative
will go
into
effect
on
September
9,
initially
for
those
immigrants
living
in that
province.
This
measure
is part
efforts
to
resolve
the
situation
of
thousands
of
undocumented
immigrants
living
in
Panama.
The
program
will be
gradually
carried
out in
the rest
of
Panamanian
provinces
in the
coming
weeks,
and
conclude
later
this
year.
In July,
a total
of 7845
foreigners
were
legalized
in the
capital
through
the same
program
