Salvadoran,
Mexican
Presidents
to
Discuss
Security
SAN
SALVADOR
-
Salvadoran
President
Mauricio
Funes
will
travel
to
Mexico
shortly
to hold
security
talks
with
President
Felipe
Calderon
following
the
migrant
massacre
in
Tamaulipas.
Although
an exact
date was
not
announced,
Foreign
Minister
Hugo
Martinez
said
that
within
the
president's
busy
international
agenda
for
September,
the
Mexico
visit
had top
priority.
The
Salvadoran
president
sent a
letter
to
Calderon
requesting
a
meeting
to
discuss
the
battle
on drug
cartels
after 72
immigrants
from
Honduras,
El
Salvador,
Guatemala,
Ecuador
and
Brazil
were
murdered
in the
northeastern
Mexican
state.
Funes
stated
in his
letter
that the
Tamaulipas
events
were an
example
of the
magnitude
of
organized
criminal
activity.
Preliminary
reports
indicated
that the
immigrants
were
intercepted
and
killed
by
members
of the
Los
Zetas
drug
traffickers.
