Traffic
Congestion
On The
Circunvalación
At Its
Peak
Despite
New
Overpass
The
opening
of the
Alajuelita
overpass
was to
have
eased
traffic
congestion
on the
Circunvalación.
However,
the
reserve
is being
lived
daily by
drivers,
especially
in the
areas of
Hatillo
4 and 6.
Since
the
opening
of the
overpass
on
Monday,
traffic
on the
Circunvalación
around
the
Hatillos
between
6am and
8am and
4pm and
7pm has
increased
dramatically.
Eastbound
traffic
has been
backing
up from
the
Hatillo
6
traffic
light to
the
Pavas
exit,
the
traffic
lights
being
blamed
as
traffic
volume
on the
Circunvalación
since
Monday.
César
Quirós,
director
of the
Policía
de
Tránsito,
said he
is
waiting
on the
traffic
studies
carried
out by
the
Departamento
de
Ingeniería
de
Tránsito
del
Ministerio
de Obras
Públicas
y
Transportes
(MOPT)
to
determine
if the
traffic
lights
at the
Hatillos
should
stay or
be
removed.
Critics
and many
drivers
interviewed
said
that
transportation
officials
should
have
foreseen
the
problems,
since
the
construction
of the
overpass
has been
a year
in the
making.
In a
feeble
attempt
to ease
congestion,
Quirós
has
posted
30
Tránsitos
(traffic
officials)
along
the
Circunvalación
that
runs
from La
Uruca to
San
Pedro.
Areas of
attention
of the
Tránsitos
are the
Hatillos,
San
Sebastián,
Paso
Ancho, I
Griega,
Zapote,
San
Pedro,
the
rotonda
de La
Bandera
the
Guadalupe
intersection.
