Troops
Deployed
to
Ensure
Safety
in Metro
CARACAS
- The
Bolivarian
National
Police
deployed
658
troops
in the
47 metro
stations
in
Caracas
to
ensure
security
in the
underground
transport
system.
The
officers
will
conduct
patrols
in the
cars, in
the
platforms
and in
the
vicinity
of the
stations
in
conjunction
with the
Metro
Heritage
Guards.
The
police
agency's
director,
Luis
Fernandez,
said the
Strategic
Criminal
Intelligence
Unit to
combat
criminal
gangs
will
also
participate
in the
patrols.
These
units,
according
to
Fernandez,
began
research
work on
the
subway
in July,
and
since
then 59
members
of gangs
were
captured.
Subway
users
will
also
have at
their
disposal
personnel
to deal
with
complaints
and
others
dealing
with
criminal
investigation,
who will
attend
to crime
victims
to speed
up the
process.
The main
objective
is to
give
confidence
to
people
who
benefit
from
this
transport
system
and
reverse
the
existing
discomfort
during
peak
hours,
said
Fernandez.
The
Bolivarian
National
Guard
will
start
operating
on
September
19 in
the main
roads of
the
capital,
in two
shifts
of 400
