Significant
Growth
of South
American
Tourists
to Cuba
Buenos
Aires -
The
number
of
travels
to Cuba
by South
American
tourists
exhibits
a
significant
growth
in the
first
quarter
of 2011,
when it
amounted
to more
than
45,600
passengers,
as
reported
by a
high
executive
of the
tourism
sector.
Between
January
and
March
2011,
countries
like
Argentina,
Chile,
Brazil,
Uruguay,
Peru and
Paraguay
sent
45,609
visitors
to
different
regions
of Cuba,
almost
10, 200
more
than in
the same
period
of 2010,
said
Luis
Felipe
Aguilera,
director
of the
Cuban
Office
for
Information
and
Tourism
Promotion.
In the
first
quarter,
it
totalled
almost
26,000
travellers,
an
increase
of 33.84
percent
compared
to the
same
period
of 2010.
The
Chilean
tourist
market
in the
first
three
months
of the
year
increased
by 55.43
percent
compared
to the
same
period
of 2010.
A total
of 9,685
Chilean
visitors
went to
Cuba.
Uruguay
has
grown
44.04
percent,
Paraguay
24.3
percent,
and
Brazil
24
percent,
while
the
number
of
visitors
from
Peru was
only
87.7
percent
of those
that
visited
last
year.
