Crime
Grows
in
El
Salvador

Crime
in
different
parts
of
El
Salvador
claimed
the
lives
of
40
people
over
the
weekend,
according
to
official
figures
released
Monday
by
the
National
Police
(PNC).
At
least
six
people
were
killed
on
Friday,
making
it
the
least
violent
day
in
August,
but
on
Saturday
four
women
and
12
men
were
killed,
and
the
lives
of
another
18
were
claimed
on
Sunday,
a
similar
number
to
that
on
August
10,
both
among
the
most
violent
days
this
month
after
August
9,
with
20
deaths.
According
to
the
PNC,
crimes
in
El
Salvador
in
January-August
this
year
outnumbered
those
of
the
same
period
in
2009
and
2010.
2009
is
considered
the
most
violent
year
of
the
previous
decade,
with
a
total
of
4,296
people
killed.
However,
at
least
2,755
people
have
been
killed
from
January
1st
to
August
22
this
year,
exceeding
the
2,731
murders
registered
in
the
same
period
of
2009.
