Intel
Opens
New IDC
In Costa
Rica
With
scissors
in hand,
Costa
Rican
presidenta,
Laura
Chinchilla,
officiated
the
ribbon
cutting
ceremony
inaugurating
Intel's
new
Engineering
Development
Center
(IDC).
The U.S.
multinational
has
invested
us$8
million
dollars
in the
centre
that
will
create
300
engineering
and
technician
jobs, at
its
plane
located
in Belén,
minutes
from the
San José
airport.
The IDC
is
responsible
for
designing,
developing,
testing
and
validation
of
software
and
hardware
which
will
have
applications
in
fields
such as
medicine,
science
and
entertainment.
The
Costa
Rican
IDC
professionals
have
participated
in the
development
of the
Sandy
Bridge
technology,
the
codename
for the
processor
microarchitecture
developed
by
Intel.
During
the
ceremony,
Michael
Forrest,
general
manager
of Intel
in Costa
Rica,
the
centre
is of
vital
importance
to the
corporation.
"We have
some of
the
brightest
minds in
the
world",
said
Forrest.
For her
part,
Chinchilla
thanked
and
congratulated
Inter
for
developing
the
operation
in Costa
rica
"Intels
contribution
to the
human
heritage
of Costa
Rica has
been
invaluable
over the
years,
promoting
training
programs
for
teachers,
strengthening
our
science
fairs,
donating
equipment
to
educational
institutions
and
strengthening
the
development
curriculum
in the
areas of
engineering.
I wish
to
reiterate
my
appreciation
for
assessing
the
human
potential
of our
country,
confidence
is a
challenge
that
drives
us to
keep
working
with
determination
and zeal
for
economic
development
based on
innovation",
said
Chinchilla.
