CONAVI
To
Install
Automatic
Toll
System
One of
the
major
traffic
congestions
on the
autopisas
General
Cañas,
the
Florencio
del
Castillo
and the
Braulio
Carrilo
is the
toll
booths,
as the
manual
collection
of tolls
slows
down the
flow of
traffic.
As such
the
CONAVI (Consejo
Nacional
de
Vialidad)
announced
that it
will be
seeking
bids for
the
installation
of
automatic
collection
systems
on the
Florencio
del
Castillo
to
Cartago
and the
Braulio
Carrillo
to
Guapiles.
The goal
is
streamline
the
service
for
users
who
travel
on these
roads.
The
automatic
system,
possibly
similar
to the
"Quick
Pass"
used on
the San
José -
Caldera
by
Autopistas
del Sol,
will
also
mean an
improvement
to the
toll
stands
now in
use.
The
CONAVI
did not
include
the
General
Cañas as
the
tolls
during
peak
hours -
from 7am
to 7pm
Monday
to
Friday
and
10:30am
to
1:30pm
on
Saturdays
- is
suspended.
The move
was to
avoid
the
traffic
congestion
on Costa
Rica's
busiests
autopista,
as
traffic
backed
up at
times
for more
than two
kilometres.
It is
estimated
that the
new
automated
tolls
will be
in place
by the
end of
the
year.
