Atenas
Residents
Blockade
San José
-
Caldera
on
Saturday
Tired of
the
broken
promises,
the
residents
of
Atenas
decided
to block
the San
José -
Caldera
on
Saturday.
With
sticks,
rocks
and
signs in
hand, a
dozen or
so
residents
were
able to
chocked
off all
transit
on the
main
road to
and from
the
Pacific
coast.

The
residents
of the
area of
Rio
Grande
and
Balsa in
Atenas
have
been
upset
and
decided
to
protest
on
Saturday
the
charging
- on and
off - of
the
tolls at
the
Atenas
turn
off,
although
a
section
of that
road
collapsed
under
the
rains of
the last
rainy
season
and the
lack of
a
pedestrian
overpass.
Both
items
have
been
promised
to be
fixed by
the
ministerio
de Obras
Publicas
y
Transportes
(MOPT)
and the
Autopistas
del Sol,
the road
concessionaire.
The
residents
are fed
up and
decided
to take
action.
During
the
blockade
that
lasted
for some
time,
there
was an
exchange
of angry
words
between
the
protestors
and
Edwin
Rodriguez,
representing
"concessiones".
The
blockade
began
around
10am and
was
called
off by
2:30pm,
when all
heads
cooled
down,
both
sides
signed
and
agreement,
ending
the
blockade
and end
to
unfilled
promises.
