The
Wal-Mart
chain of
stores
is
offering
Costa
Ricans
Nicaraguan
milk at
a lower
price
than
milk
produced
in Costa
Rica.
Although
Costa
Rica
produces
milk to
supply
the
whole
country
and even
for
export,
the
retail
chain
did not
reach
agreement
with the
Dos
Pinos
company
and
decided
to
import
the milk
from
Nicaragua,
offering
it at
˘5.3 per
cent
cheaper
the milk
produced
nationally.
The one
litre
packages
of "skim
milk"
and "2%"
is sold
under
the "Sabemas"
brand
and is
available
at all
169
Wal-Mart
stores -
Mas x
Menos,
Maxibodega,
Pali and
Hipermás
- in
Costa
Rica.
Failing
its
negotiations
with Dos
Pinos,
Wal-Mart
reached
and
agreement
with the
Italian
food
group,
Parmalat,
which
packages
the
product
in its
long
lasting
tetra
brick
containers.
