Bebidas
Is Now
"Zero
Waste"
Do you
think it
possible
to reuse
all
waste
produced
at home
or in
your
workplace?
If your
answer
is no,
you're
wrong,
because
it can
be a
reality.
Florida
Bebidas,
the
producer
of Costa
Rica's
beers,
bottled
water
and
juices,
is an
example
as the
company
becomes
the
first
"zero
waste"
and
reuses,
recycles
and
co-processes
almost
100
percent
of all
waste
generated
at their
facilities.
The plan
and the
results
were
announced
yesterday
at the
INBioparque
in
Heredia.
The
company
says its
was able
to
process
some
99.4% of
waste
from
manufacturing
plants,
warehouses
and
administrative
offices.
Florida
Bebidas
claims
that
66.2% of
waste
generated
was
reused,
31.3%
recycled
and 1.9%
co-processed,
while
the
remaining
0.6% had
no way
of being
processed.
An
example
given
was that
of the
shell of
bran
used for
the
production
of beer
was
turned
into
animal
feed.
Also
sludgle
from the
wastewater
treatment
plant,
after
being
hydrated,
is used
fro
making
compost.
"We need
to see
waste as
seen by
nature:
not as
waste
but as
an input
for a
new
process",
said
yesterday
Gisela
Sanchez,
director
of
corporate
relations
for
Florida
Bebidas.
