Honduras:
Two-Thirds
of
Children
Living
in
Poverty
Tegucigalpa
-
Two
of
every
three
children
suffer
the
effects
of
poverty
in
Honduras,
which
is
one
of
the
most
unequal
countries
in
Latin
America.
In
this
country,
two-thirds
of
children
are
malnourished
and
lack
access
to
safe
water,
sanitation,
school,
media
and
information,
according
to a
study
by
the
Economic
Commission
for
Latin
America
(ECLAC)
and
UNICEF.
These
UN
agencies
say
that
poverty
also
affects
nearly
81
million
children
under
18
in
Latin
America
and
the
Caribbean.
In
this
regard,
they
called
the
region's
governments
to
promote
social,
employment
and
macroeconomic
policies
to
end
the
economic
and
social
plight
in
which
these
children
live.
In
public
policy,
ECLAC
and
UNICEF
said
that
for
progressing
in
overcoming
child
poverty
is
necessary
to
invest
in
children
and
reduce
the
persistent
socio-economic,
territorial,
ethnic
and
gender
inequality
present
in
all
countries
of
the
region.
