Rice Price Drops Sunday

Though the price of gasoline has hit the roof with consecutive increase all year, there is some good news, the price of rice is dropping. Beginning Sunday the cost of a kilogram of rice will drop ¢43 colones.

The Ministerio de Economía (MEIC) signed a decree dropping the price of the graim from ¢734 to ¢691 colones a kilogram.

The price of rice, like gasoline, is set by the government.

The viceministro de Economía, Marvin Rodríguez, said they had hoped for a drop of ¢100 colones, however, the Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo, did not permit the larger reduction.

Beginning on Sunday, the MEIC will accept complaints of consumers against retailers who do not drop their price.

The consumer complaint hotline is 800 CONSUMO (800 266 7866).
