Former
General
Noriega
Mobilizes
Panamanian
Judicial
System
The
possible
return
to
Panama
of
former
General
Manuel
Antonio
Noriega,
imprisoned
in
France
on
money
laundering
charges
of
the
Medellin
cartel,
before
the
end
of
2011,
has
mobilized
Panama´s
judicial
system,
which
will
try
him
for
several
pending
charges.
The
president
of
the
Supreme
Court,
Anibal
Salas,
noted
that
all
the
judges
who
ruled
against
Noriega
must
now
make
statements
if
necessary.
Salas
recalled
that
Noriega
must
face
six
sentences:
three
for
homicide,
one
for
deprivation
of
freedom,
one
for
corruption
and
another
one
for
embezzlement,
although
he
was
sentenced
for
the
murders
of
Hugo
Spadafora,
Moises
Giroldi
and
the
Albrook
massacre
in
1989.
The
Second
Superior
Court
has
still
to
set
the
date
of
the
trial
for
the
disappearance
and
death
of
Heliodoro
Portugal
(1970),
and
Noriega
will
also
appear
in
the
Chiriqui
Superior
Court
to
respond
for
the
disappearances
of
Everett
Clayton
Kimble
and
Luis
Quiroz
Morales
in
1968
and
1969,
respectively.
Upon
arrival
in
Panama,
Noriega
will
be
imprisoned
at
El
Renacer
penitentiary.
The
Appeal
Court
in
Paris
will
decide
on
November
23
whether
to
accept
the
second
extradition
request
presented
by
Panama.
