Old ˘1.000 and ˘2.000 Bills Lose Their Value On November 1

On Tuesday the old ˘1.000 and ˘2.000 colones bill will no longer be legal tender according to the Banco Central de Costa Rica (BCCR).

If you have any of the old bills lying around best is to take to your local bank for exchange or deposit to your account, for come November 1, they are worthless.

The bills can only be exchanged at banks for they lost their commercial value several months back with the introduction of the new bills.

After October 31 not even the Central Bank will accept the bills.

Jorge Mario Rivas, an official of the BCCR, added that in the coming weeks the new ˘5.000 and ˘10.000 bills will be in circulation.
