Smooth
Drive
Home On
Sunday
Perhaps
it
was
that
the
actual
number
of
vacationers
was
less
than
estimates
or
that
Costa
Ricans
are
finally
learning
not
to
leave
the
return
home
until
the
possible
last
minute,
the
drive
home
on
Sunday
was
smooth
and
not
with
the
typical
traffic
congestion.
The
director
of
the
Policia
de
Tránsito,
Diego
Herrero,
confirmed
that
the
only
congestion
reported
on
Sunday
was
at
the
"cruce
de
Limonal"
in
the
direction
of
the
Lagarto
river.
Also
helping
to
reduce
congestion,
the
Autopistas
del
Sol
converted
the
Ruta
27
(San
José
-
Caldera)
one-way
San
José
bound
from
noon
to
6pm
on
Sunday
and
noon
to
8pm
on
Saturday.
This,
a
regular
practice
on
Sundays
during
the
summer
months,
allowed
returning
vacationers
to
use
all
the
lanes
of
the
road,
up
to
four
in
some
sectors,
to
head
home.
Herrero
also
confirmed
that
his
officials
reported
an
increased
number
of
vehicles
heading
back
to
Central
Valley
beginning
on
Friday,
a
totally
unexpected
situation.
The
regional
airlines
-
Sansa
and
Nature
Air
-
also
reported
an
sharp
increase
in
passengers
this
week,
many
appear
to
taking
to
the
air
instead
of
the
roads
to
get
to
and
from
their
destinations.
Sansa
offers
service
from
the
Juan
Santamaria
airport
to
all
major
destinations
in
Costa
Rica,
while
Nature
Air
operates
from
the
Tobias
Bolaños
airport
in
Pavas.
