Landslides Cause Of Two Road Closings, Restriction In Two More And Problems In Many Others

Driving around the country this weekend  can be somewhat complicated as two major roads are closed, while two others have restrictions due to landslides.

National Ruta 225 in Turrialba is closed in the area known as Congo in the town of Jiménez following a landslide on Wednesday, as work crews attempt to re-open the road by today. Two backhoes and a series of dump trucks have been at the scene removing earth and debris.

National Ruta 224 in the area of Salto de la Novia de Cartago (Bride's Leap) is also closed. The alternate is by way of El Rincón.

Ruta 36 is now said to be open as work crews managed to re-open passage in the area of Bribri on the way to Talamanca, though passage is restricted as a preventive measure in case of future landslides.

The road in the area of Sixaola in the area of Celia is also affected as the asphalt surface was broken up, authorities are asking for drivers to use extreme caution.

In Limón Ruta 85, between B-Line and Matina, is affected as work crews continue the cleanup.

The Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (CONAVI) says it has work crews at the above locations and others to maintain the roads open.
