SICA Summit in Nicaragua to Mark Peace Agreements

The Summit of the Central American Integration System (SICA) on Aug. 8 in Nicaragua will mark the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Esquipulas Agreements that restored peace to the region, the Executive confirmed.

Prior to the meeting of presidents, today the Foreign ministers and technical teams of SICA will gather in this capital, said Coordinator of the Council of Communication and Citizenry, Rosario Murillo.

She said that representatives of the Organization of American States (OAS) will attend the meeting, as requested by the presidents of the region.

This week we will celebrate the peace time we are going through in Central America, hoping for it to consolidate and become the daily atmosphere and spirit, said the representative of the Executive in remarks to Multinoticias program of television channel 4.

According to Murillo, nowadays many people worldwide are reflecting and praying so that such terrible, deplorable crimes like the US bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6, 67 years ago cannot happend again.

The legacy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has become a permanent invitation for peace to remain as a fundamental objective in the life of mankind, she said.
