Earthquakes

Six
Hours
Thursday
The
Observatorio
Vulcanológico
y
Sismológico
de
Costa
Rica
(OVSICORI)
reported
three
earthquakes
in
Costa
Rica
between
late
afternoon
and
Thursday
night.

The
first
tremor
was
felt
at
5:05pm,
a
magnitude
of
3.7
degrees
on
the
Richter
scale,
the
epicentre
located
8 km
east
of
Las
Juntas
de
Abangares
in
Alajuela,
with
a
depth
of
68.7
kilometres.
According
to
OVSICORI
the
quake
was
felt
only
in
San
Ramon,
Heredia
and
Miramar.
At
10:27pm
the
earth
shook
again,
this
time
registering
4.6
degrees.
This
quake
was
located
85
kilometres
northwest
of
Playa
Grande
de
Carrillo
in
Guanacaste.
The
U.S.
Geological
Survey
(USGS)
reported
the
same
quake
as a
4.9
off
the
coast
of
Nicaragua.
Within
minutes
another
tremor
was
registered,
this
a
2.6.
The
epicentre
was
located
1 km
southeast
of
Pozo
Azul
de
Sarapiquí,
at a
depth
of
29
km.
For
all
three
events,
there
was
no
report
of
damage
to
property
or
persons
affected.
