Honduras Seizes Mara 18 Arsenal

The Honduran Police seized today an UZI Submachine gun, three automatic guns, four fragmentation grenades, several other explosives and more than 500 projectiles during a raid at a wing at the Penitenciaria Nacional.

The arsenal which included retarded fuses, percussion caps, lighter and other improvised weaponry, were found in wing 23rd in power of Mara 18 band, said police spokesman German Rivera who talked on an on going probe to confirm the firearms and explosive sources and entry door to the prison.

Penitenciaría Nacional is 30km north of Tegucigalpa is the largest of all 24 penitentiaries in Honduras; it now houses some 2,200 inmates and 50 percent have not been to court yet.

On March 16th, elheraldo.hn blog reported a surprise raid that uncovered a tunnel hoarding 1,800 beer cans, liquor and cell-phones.
