on
the
more
than
US$800.000
bicycle
path
in
Cartago,
a
work
that
has
been
criticized
by
the
Consejo
de
Seguridad
Vial
(COSEVI).
"The
bike
path
in
Cartago
is a
disaster.
I
know,
I
live
in
Cartago
and
move
about
in
the
city
each
day.
What
it
demonstrates
is
poor
planning
and
little
use.
With
cars
often
parked
on
the
other
side
it
constricts
lanes
of
traffic
to
1-1.5
lanes
and
will
cause
accidents.
In a
city
that
has
“huecos”
like
teenagers
have
pimples
and
in
need
of
serious
repair,
we
build
a
bike
paths!
It
makes
no
sense",
writes
Ken
Beedle
in a
letter
to
Inside
Costa
Rica.

The
bike
path
is
about
six
kilometres
of
track
designed
specifically
for
cyclists,
weaving
through
the
Viejo
Metropoli
(Old
Metropolis,
as
Cartago
is
sometimes
referred
to)
from
the
Central
Market
to
the
Polideportivo
and
Colegio
Universitario.
The
work
was
funded
by
the
Federación
Internacional
de
Automovilismo
(International
Automobile
Federation)
with
a
donation
of
US$700.000
dolllars
and
a
Municipalidad
de
Cartago
(Municipality)
contribution
of
˘70
million
colones
(US$138.000).
