"Green
Alert"
For
Pacific
Coast
After
receiving
information
by
the
Centro
de
Investigación
en
Ciencias
del
Mar
y
Limnología
(CIMAR)
de
la
Universidad
de
Costa
Rica,
on
the
presence
of
strong
waves,
the
Comisión
Nacional
de
Prevención
de
Riesgos
y
Atención
de
Emergencias
(CNE)
declared
a
"green
alert"
for
the
Pacific
coast
of
Costa
Rica.

The
CIMAR
says
waves
can
reach
3.4
metres
(11
feet)
in
height.
According
to
the
CIMAR
the
waves
have
maximum
of
20
to
22
seconds
of
wave
period,
which
is
identified
as
very
strong
waves
breaking
on
the
beach.
The
predicted
impact
for
the
strong
waves
are
Caldera
(very
similar
to
what
happened
the
week
before
last),
Playa
Azul
and
Corralillo
de
Tárcoles,
Palo
Seco
and
Isla
de
Damas.
The
CNE
is
calling
on
swimmers
and
sailors
of
small
bats
to
use
extreme
caution,
especially
near
the
mouths
of
rivers
and
estuaries.
The
green
alert
activates
local
emergency
committees.
