Costa Rica Police Find 49Kg of Cocaine In Kidnap Victim's Home

The news made the headlines on Wednesday, a man had been kidnapped the day earlier in the upscale residential neighourhood of Escazú, west of San José. Authorities theorized the kidnapping had ties to drug trafficking and possibly involving a Mexican cartel.

Thus it wasnt too surprising when agents of the Criminal Section of Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) found 49 kilos of cocaine in the kidnapped man's house and US$3.000 in cash in an abandoned vehicle nearby.

So far authorities do not know the whereabouts of the kidnap victim nor the kidnappers.

Reports say the victim is a Colombian national. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the man's nationality nor have disclosed his identity to the press.
