Rains Of Wednesday Equal To One Week's Rainfall

The rains that hit the country on Wednesday amounted to the equivalent of five days normal rainfall, according to the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) - national weather service.



Areas worst hit by the torrential rains were San José and Turrialba.

In San José downtown more than 44 milliliters of water fell on Wednesday, in Pavas 70 ml were recorded.

According to IMN spokesperson, Gabriela Chinchilla, more rain is expected in the coming days as the season moves into the worst months - September and October.



The heavy rains have caused flooding and damage to at least 26 homes and more than 40 people take shelter in the homes of friends, relatives and shelters set up by the Comision Nacional de Emergencias (CNE).
