Heavy Rain Expected To Continue But Not As Intense As This Past Mid-Week

Wednesday night the rains came down with such intensity that it resulted in the damage of 30 homes and six bridges in some 15 different cantons.

More than 300 people were forced to leave their home as high waves battered the Pacific coastline, in particular in the area of Caldera, in the mid-Pacific.

The Comisión de Emergencias (CNE) was forced to open up five shelters located in different provinces.

The rains were also the cause of the problems this weekend with the autopista General Cañas.

Although the rains have subsided since, it is important not to let the guard down. The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) - national weather service - is forecasting continued rains as we move into the worst months of the rainy season, September and October, but won't be as intense.

The CNE continues the "green alert" for the Pacific coast. The alert activates local emergency response committees.
