Prefer
Partying
To
Dance
Show

Ministro
Cultura
y
Juventud
(Minister
of
Culture
and
Youth)
released
on
Friday
a
survey
that
shows
that
almost
80%
of
Costa
Ricans
prefer
traditional
"fiestas"
while
only
2%
are
interested
in
watching
dance
show.

The
survey,
“Primera
Encuesta
Nacional
de
Hábitos
y
Prácticas
Culturales”
took
in
the
response
of
some
3.381
people
over
the
age
of
six
with
the
objective
of
providing
a
cultural
indicator.
The
survey
allowed
to
learn
frequency
and
use
of
public
spaces
devoted
to
cultural
activities,
identify
cultural
habits
and
practices,
in
accordance
with
the
national,
urban
and
rural
sociodemographic
characteristics.
The
report
says
that
79.9%
said
they
attended
"traditional
festivals",
while
only
32.1%
visited
cultural
centres.
In
contrast,
only
2.1%
reported
going
to a
traditional
dance
and
music
show.
The
most
surprising
fact
is
that
among
traditional
dishes,
51.%
of
Costa
Ricans
preferred
the
Gallo
Pinto,
while
only
3.6%
fo
the
respondents
preferred
Tamales.
The
Ministro
said
that
the
survey
also
provides
the
socio
demographic
and
interests
of
the
population
in
terms
of
cultural
goods
and
services,
in
order
to
optimally
guide
the
design
of
strategic
development
plans.
