War
Between
Motorcycles
And
Vehicles
Continues
To
Shed
Blood
We've
seen
them,
speeding
by
at
full
throttle
weaving
through
traffic.
Or
using
the
non-existing
shoulder
as
their
own
domain,
pulling
out
in
front
of
vehicles,
cutting
off
big
trucks,
buses,
what
have
you.
It
is
hard
to
find
a
driver
in
Costa
Rica
who
has
not
come
into
almost
contact
with
a
motorcycle.

And
when
contact
does
occur,
the
motorcyclist
usually
loses
the
battle.
Such
was
the
case
twice
over
this
weekend
where
motorcyclists
were
left
spread
out
on
the
pavement
while
judicial
authorities
concluded
their
investigations
and
ordered
the
lifting
of
the
body.
In
both
cases
excessive
speeding
and
careless
driving
on
the
part
of
the
motorcyclist
were
the
cause
of
the
carnage.
The
first
on
Saturday,
a
speeding
motorcyclist
on
the
Circunvalación
ahead
of
the
Hatillo
8
traffic
lights
in
the
south
lanes
couldn't
break
in
time
before
smacking
into
a
vehicle
stopped
in
the
usual
traffic
congestion
of
the
area.
The
motorcyclist
struck
the
SUV
and
ended
up
on
top
of
another
vehicle
some
metres
ahead
after
being
ejected
from
the
impact.
The
passenger
was
sent
to
hospital.

The
accident
occurred
shortly
before
2pm,
forcing
the
closure
of
the
Circunvalación
for
hours.
In
the
early
hours
of
Monday,
in
the
area
of
the
Estadio
Ricardo
Saprissa,
near
the
Virilla
river
bridge,
a
motorcyclist
driving
at
full
throttle
according
to
witnesses,
slammed
into
a
vehicle.
Like
in
the
Saturday
accident,
the
motorcyclist
lost
the
battle.
