Smile,
You're
On
Transit
Camera!
After
an
initial
presentation
many
months
ago,
the
cameras
are
coming
out
of
mothball
storage
and
will
be
snapping
away
at
speeding
drivers
in
the
morning
hours.

The
Policía
de
Tránsito
(traffic
police)
announced
that
it
be
putting
in
to
use
the
cameras
on
"high-speed"
roads
to
detect
drivers
who
insist
on
going
over
the
limit
and
in
effort
to
curb
the
carnage,
that
this
weekend
alone
took
the
lives
of
five.
In
the
majority
of
the
traffic
fatalities,
speeding
was
the
cause
or
contributing
factor.
Diego
Herrera,
director
of
the
Policía
de
Tránsito
said
the
controls
will
be
random
and
of
surprise
to
drivers,
routes
chosen
based
on
complaints
and
accident
reports.
The
director's
comments
are
founded
on
the
practice
by
many
traffic
officials
to
mount
their
spot
checks
and
controls
in
the
"usual"
spots
known
to
drivers.
Roads
like
the
autopista
General
Cañas,
the
Ruta
32
(San
José
-
Limón),
the
Ruta
27
(San
José
-
Caldera),
the
old
road
to
Cartago,
are
just
a
few
of
the
roads
that
will
transito
will
be
snapping
away.
The
fine
for
speeding
is
less
that
meal
at a
fast
food
restaurant,
but
points
to
apply
which
will
lead
to
the
suspension
of a
license
when
50
points
are
accumulated
-
basically
five
speeding
tickets.
