Costa Rica Banks Auction Off Properties

Farms, estates, vehicles and even hotels are on the list of assets banks in Costa Rica want to get rid of, properties that Costa Ricans could not pay for and are going on auction.

The Banco Nacional (BN) and the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) has published its first list of properties available to the general public.

The BN tops the list with 34 lots, mostly in Puntarenas and Guanacaste, although it has some in San José and Alajuela provinces as well. Prices range from ¢21 million to ¢400 million colones.

At the BCR, the auction includes 19 properties and 12 vehicles and a hotel in Guanacaste.

These are assets that the banks have recovered from non-paying borrowers after completion of the judicial process.
