Nicaragua
to
Strengthen
Crime
Prevention
among
Youth
and
Adolescents
Nicaragua's
National
Assembly
called
for
strengthening
the
prevention
of
crime
in
children
and
adolescents,
rather
than
increasing
prison
sentences.
The
parliament
approved
the
report
of
national
consultation
on
reforms
to
the
Code
of
Childhood
and
Adolescence,
presented
by a
special
commission
led
by
the
first
secretary
of
the
Board
of
the
legislative
body,
Alba
Palacios.
The
coordinator
of
the
ruling
Sandinista
National
Liberation
Front
(FSLN),
Edwin
Castro,
insisted
on
strengthening
the
work
with
the
family,
the
cradle
of
the
ethical
and
moral
values
of
the
human
being,
and
the
basic
unit
of
society.
Most
crimes
are
related
to
family
needs
in
the
midst
of
extreme
poverty,
family
disintegration
and
lack
of
parental
and
maternal
guidance,
deputies
commented.
The
deputies
also
proposed
to
amend
the
current
penal
system
for
young
people
so
that
instead
of
going
to
prison
they
could
serve
their
sentences
in
rehabilitation
centers. |
