Return
of
Argentinean
President
Revives
Dispute
with
London
The
return
of
President
Cristina
Fernandez
to
lead
the
Argentina
Executive
has
revived
the
dispute
between
this
country
and
the
United
Kingdom
over
the
sovereignty
of
the
Falkland
(Malvinas)
Islands.
After
a
20-day
medical
leave,
Fernandez
on
Wednesday
resumed
her
duties
with
a
public
event,
in
which
she
renewed
the
claim
to
London
to
talk
and
negotiate
on
the
jurisdiction
over
that
archipelago.
The
stateswoman
said
she
will
insist
"with
legal
and
diplomatic
rigor,"
and
continue
seeking
support
for
the
enforcement
of
the
UN
resolution
to
discuss
that
question.
Fernandez
stated
that
she
will
continue
the
battle
at
the
UN
Committee
on
Decolonization,
and
criticized
the
British
government
for
its
diplomatic
escalation
in
recent
weeks.
The
claim
of
sovereignty
over
the
Falkland
Islands
also
includes
the
defense
of
natural
resources,
because
the
United
Kingdom
"is
preying
on
our
oil
and
our
fishery."
The
widow
of
former
President
Nestor
Kirchner
criticized
some
recent
statements
by
British
Prime
Minister
David
Cameron,
who
termed
Buenos
Aires
as
colonialist
for
its
claim. |
