The
visit
to
Nicaragua
of
the
President
of
the
Spanish
Senate,
Pio
Garcia-Escudero,
and
the
rejection
by
the
executive
and
legislative
branches
of
the
coup
in
Paraguay
are
among
highlights
of
the
week
here.
The
Spanish
leader
arrived
in
Nicaragua
on
June
26
from
Costa
Rica
in
an
international
tour
in
preparation
of
the
Parliamentary
Forum
that
will
be
the
prelude
to
the
Summit
of
Heads
of
State,
to
be
held
in
Cadiz,
Spain,
in
October
and
November.
Garcia-Escudero
confirmed
his
government's
will
to
support
this
nation
in
the
fight
against
poverty,
and
stressed
the
efforts
of
the
Nicaraguan
Executive
to
benefit
the
people
in
sectors
such
as
health,
education
and
housing.
Nicaragua's
National
Assembly
awarded
Garcia-Escudero
with
the
Order
General
Jose
Dolores
Estrada,
Battle
of
San
Jacinto,
the
highest
honor
granted
by
Parliament
to
distinguished
personalities
or
institutions.
On
Wednesday
afternoon,
the
top
official
opened
the
Crime
Laboratory
of
the
National
Police
of
Nicaragua,
mostly
funded
by
Spanish
cooperation
with
maximum
technological
progress,
expected
to
be
of
reference
to
police
and
legal
institutions
from
the
Central
American
region.
President
Ortega
thanked
the
European
government
for
the
help
granted
to
his
country
in
different
programs,
despite
the
economic
crisis
in
Spain.
Also
this
week,
Ortega
stated
that
Nicaragua
will
not
recognize
the
new
government
in
the
wake
of a
coup
in
Paraguay,
and
denounced
the
existence
of a
conspiracy
that
is
trying
to
weaken
the
process
of
struggle
in
Latin
American
and
Caribbean
peoples. |
