More than 165,000 Nicaraguans to Get Government Assistance

As of July 5, more than 165,000 state workers will get economic assistance granted by the government to support low income families, official Rosario Murillo announced.

Called the Solidarity Bonus, this monthly contribution will benefit 165,515 workers, Murillo told TV Channel 4.

In April, 2011, the Sandinista Executive led by President Daniel Ortega increased this assistance from 530 to 700 cordobas (from 23.6 USD to 31 USD), and in early May it went up to 750 cordobas (over 33 USD).

To many Nicaraguan workers, who earn less than 5,000 cordobas (222 USD), this bonus becomes an important supplementary payment for household expenses in education, health, food and housing, according to local media.
