President Ortega Highlights Leading Role of Nicaraguan Youth

President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, emphasized on Sunday the prominent role played by the youth during the march of homage to that tactical retreat that 33 years ago was decisive for the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution.

I am proud because youth is the future of the peoples, a future full of hope and energy, said the president.

Ortega thanked the thousands of Nicaraguans who marched with him over 33 kilometers from the capital, Managua, to the city of Masaya, arriving at midnight followed by a lot of flags of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN).

Some jined the march following Ortega's way, on foot, others on bicycles, motorcycles, and the disabled in wheelchairs, all the rain.

With this march we honor our heroes, asserted the president and recalled many of those who died more than 33 years ago, victims of the cruel tyranny of Anastasio Somoza.

At that time the Cuban Revolution was shining in America, while the Nicaraguan people was fighting to get rid of a dictatorship, and other Latin American countries were hit by similar regimes, he remarked.

Ortega also insisted on dedicating the march to Paraguay, a nation that was recently victim of a coup, and its legitimate president Fernando Lugo.

The agents of empire failed in recent years to expel the presidents Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Evo Morales of Bolivia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, despite trying, however they did it in Paraguay even with the people against, he explained.

It teaches us that our people and the youth need to reinforce their knowledge, and I'm sure that sooner or later Paraguayans will obatin their victory, he stated at the Plaza Pedro Joaquin Chamorro, in Masaya.

The march began on Saturday with festivities and the President along with the coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council, Rosario Murillo, greeted by people across the country who walked to the historic Indian city to accompany them.
